This organ was built by Alexander Young & Sons Ltd, a firm of organ builders based in Manchester. It has a plaque attached to it that reads, 'ALEXR. YOUNG & SONS, ORGAN BUILDERS, MANCHESTER, 1897.' Alexander Young was born in Glamis Forfarshire, Scotland, in 1809 and by 1837 he was living in Chorlton upon Medlock, Manchester, where he was employed as an organ builder, and by the time of the 1871 census he had become a foreman. The 1871 census also records that his son, William Alexander, was employed as an organ tuner but in 1872 he founded the family business of Alexander Young & Sons Ltd, which was established in Vine Street, off Stretford Road, Hulme. His father joined him in 1873 and in 1875 the business moved to 27 and 29 Eldon Street, Chorlton. The couple’s eldest son, David Farquharson, was also associated with the family business. Alexander Young died in 1880, aged 71 years, David Farquharson died in 1911, aged 70 years. Source
C1 The organ, built by Alexander Young & Sons in 1897 (as evidenced by a plaque on the apparatus), was installed in the chapel after the restoration of the chapel in 2018, Initially installed in the Methodist church of Ludlow in Shropshire, on the border with Wales, it was acquired by Pascal Chérillat, organist, in 2005 and installed in the church of Montmirey-le-Château (Jura) and later at the Eglise communale de l'église de Reulle-Vergy. In 2018, Marie-Dominique and Georges Christian Chazot donated this organ to the Saint Joseph Hospital Foundation. The organ was reassembled and enlarged by the workshop of organ builder Bernard Darguessies and associates: Restoration of all the carpentry of the buffet Restoration of the console and bench Restoration of postages and additions and casings Addition of a Plein Jeu II-IV. The blessing of the organ by Mr. Aupetit, Archbishop of Paris, took place on June 22, 2018.
In 1878, on the initiative of Monsignor d'Hulst, a project was born to create a free faculty of medicine and a hospital for the training of students. The faculty project did not come to fruition, but thanks to the generosity of a group of lay Catholics, land was acquired to build St. Joseph's Hospital. Until 1910 the construction of the various pavilions accompanied the development of the specialties of medicine and surgery which were entrusted to the Sisters of St Vincent. The chapel of Saint-Joseph Hospital was built from 1899 to 1902 by Jacques Lequeux for Bishop d'Hulst. Stained glass windows by Mauméjean set up in 1947. After three years of necessary restoration work (2015-2018) concerning the façade that threatened ruin, restored the choir and the chevet, consolidated the roof, the chapel now offers a white stone façade, the gable is pierced by a clerestory, the porch provided with a portal with bas-reliefs. The chapel has a polygonal chevet. Inside, the vault has warheads. Masses with organ Saturday 5 PM, Sunday 9:30 AM
